How it works

How does TeleTherapy work?

Therapist sits in front of computer in a black blazer. Provides tele therapy in Alabama.

Just like regular therapy, but through video!

Research shows that Video Therapy or TeleTherapy can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy. You'll speak with your therapist to see if you're a good fit for each other,  create an online account, fill out and sign some paperwork, and meet for your therapy sessions through video.

But Video Therapy is not for everyone...

Is TeleTherapy a good option for you?

TeleTherapy with Your Story Therapy, LLC is not appropriate for those who:

  • Are having suicidal thoughts, plans, and intents
  • Are self harming
  • Are having homicidal thoughts, plans, and intents
  • Are mandated to attend therapy
  • Are currently involved in domestic violence
  • Are not familiar with, do not have access to, or do not have help with setting up technology/computer/camera/microphone
  • Do not have a private setting free of distractions and other people
  • Do not have stable internet service

If these situations apply to you, it is best to reach out to a local therapist or agency in your area to receive face-to-face services rather than video therapy or online therapy.

Ready to get started?

Start here:

Step 1: Set up a call or video chat with Elizabeth for your free consultation to see if you both are good fits for each other and for teletherapy. If you both agree to begin video therapy...

Step 2: Check your email for the link to the TherapyAppointment portal. This will be the place to send secure messages to your therapist, fill out and submit paperwork, and schedule appointments.

Step 3: Create a sign in and password.

Step 4: Follow the directions to fill out the Biographical Info Form, as well as read and sign both the Informed Consent and the Financial Agreement.

Step 5: In the "Profile" tab, enter your personal information including your physical address, emergency contact, credit card, and additional phone numbers. This is also the location to enable "Reminders", so you can be notified of your next appointment.

Step 6: In the "Dashboard" tab, you can enable two-factor Authentication to add a second layer of protection to your account.

Step 7: In the "Messages" tab, create a new message and attach a scanned picture of your photo id and send to your Therapist. Inform Therapist you have completed all the steps and would like to schedule an appointment.

You will be contacted within 24 hours to set up your online therapy appointment.

For each therapy session, your Therapist will send you a link to a Google Meet therapy room via the TherapyAppointment messaging platform.

Set up your "therapy room"

  • Make sure you have good lighting.
  • Position the camera so your therapist can see your face.
  • Choose a pair of headphones with a microphone (optional).
  • Plan to have privacy (not optional).
  • Remove distractions (TeleTherapy sessions will not be performed if clients are in a public location or driving).
  • Be prepared to show your ID on first meeting.
  • Prepare a "code word" for instances when you might need to indicate something to your therapist privately (For example: If a roommate walks in and you don't want to reveal you are in online therapy).
  • Prepare some coffee, tea, or a glass of water to enjoy during your video therapy session! (optional but  always a good choice)

I'm here for you.
